The Director of Mumbai-based Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) , S Parsuraman has asked his students not to get involved in the kind of student politics being played on the Delhi University (DU) and Jawahar Lal Nehru University (JNU) campuses as the Institute can’t “afford” to be “hauled” into any controversy.

TISS Students’ Union had issued a statement against ABVP, blaming it for the violence at DU where cancellation of an event invite to JNU students Umar Khalid and Shehla Rashid had led to conflicts. Students of TISS had also held a protest against the RSS affiliate .

In an email to all students of the institute on March 3, TISS director S Parasuraman wrote, “I request the students not to be undulated by turbulent forces.TISS cannot afford to get dragged into problems – DU and JNU are very powerful institutions and they can afford to engage in matters of the kind that are happening there. TISS is a simple institution that is working very hard to stay afloat – do not get it trapped into difficulties. There are ‘disruptive’ forces within and outside the institute which were trying to create trouble in the name of ideology.” He asked the students to be aware of them to avoid ‘difficulties’.
