There was always an expectation of that Alison Brie would carry her own show. You could see it any time her character her own moment on Community. Her character in Mad Men is evident of the fact that she is capable of slying every role she is bestowed with from nerd to vixen to brain on a dime. That name may sound familiar to you, as this fabulous series is based on the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling show that aired between 1986 and 1990. Just like the original show, this Netflix series (created by Nurse Jackie writers Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch) will follow a group of ambitious actresses, models, and other performers all looking for their big break with the hope that this peculiar little wrestling promotion will give it to them. A custom “Super Bowl Shuffle”-style rap for each performer, a commentator who was primarily a Max Headroom rip-off, and Sylvester Stallone’s mom as a manager, among other things were featured in the original series.

The first images from the Netflix version surfaced online on Thursday but instead of getting into all the weirdness that comes with pro wrestling (yet), they did bring the leg warmers and ’80s hair.

The first images show Brie, along with fellow cast members Marc Maron and Betty Gilpin, both in and out of the ring in 1985 Los Angeles. In addition to working with 12 Hollywood misfits, Ruth also has to compete with Debbie Eagan (Gilpin), a former soap actress who left show business to have a baby, only to be sucked back into work when her picture-perfect life is not what it seems. Comedian and podcaster Maron plays trainer Sam Sylvia, a washed-up, B-movie director who now must lead this group of women on the journey to wrestling stardom.

Fan of the series already?? So go and check out the rest of the new images, and get ready for our next streaming obsession. GLOW premieres June 23. Excited we are so, YASS SAVE THE DATE.
